In December of 2018, the 2018 Farm Bill was passed in the United States legalizing hemp production. While hemp is used is many products, its natural growing state can help in one of the most important ways – by providing nutrition and shelter for our dwindling bee population.
Research performed at Colorado State University found that hemp is “a valuable source of pollen for foraging bees.” And, hemp flowers later in the Summer when other potential sources of pollen have already passed their peak season.
Have an area of your yard where you can create a bee-friendly flower garden? Seeds are available on any number of sites online. (Just be sure you’re buying seeds to plant and not to eat).
